I’m not merely inciting other people to run for office in the upcoming municipal elections across British Columbia in October; I’m putting my money where my mouth is by running for Victoria’s council myself.
I’m running as a champion of human rights! Here are some highlights from my platform:
- Homelessness: I mean to solve homelessness instead of sweeping it away like the current council does.
- Drug policy: One of my goal is drug decriminalization at the municipal level.
- Law and order: I seek appointment to the police board in order to keep law enforcement accountable.
- Indigenous relations: I champion Indigenous rights legislation and treaties, such as the beleaguered Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA).
- Human rights abroad: Let’s pass a motion to divest from Israel over its war crimes and human rights violations in Palestine. If my constituents care, so do I.
- Environment: I envision a gasoline-free city in a not-so-distant future. Place your bets!
